STEP 3: Rinsing
It is also important to rinse your mouth after brushing & flossing to clean the surfaces of your tongue and other tissues within the oral cavity. If you choose to use an over-the-counter product, your dentist can help you select an appropriate product for rinsing. Alcohol-free formulas will cause less of a burning sensation, in general, and may be better for the oral tissues.
Salt Water rinses may be recommended by your dentist as they are used for their healing and soothing effects. Your dentist may even give you a prescription for a mouthwash to aid in healing after surgery.
What should I use if I have Xerostomia (Dry Mouth)?
People who experience xerostomia (Dry mouth), a low saliva flow due to certain medications, systemic medical conditions, or radiation therapies, may benefit from mouthrinses designed to act as an artifical saliva. If you think you may suffer from dry mouth, consult with your dentist.
